Dr Robert Margulies

I met Micah socially, and was immediately convinced of his passion for the Camp Patriot mission. I shared some of his experiences - in a different time and place - and he returned me to the goodness of a brother in arms.

My service was broken for awhile in school, but no less meaningful to me. I was one of the lucky ones to return home with things intact and have been blessed with opportunities to help others. I learned early that if not for the sacrifices of my father and uncles, and the million others, I would never have had the opportunities I enjoyed.

Giving back to those who have sacrificed is the right thing to do. I have been blessed by the love and companionship of my wife, Sara Barron, who shares my passions.

Military:
I served 24 years active duty with the Navy - enlisted and officer. This included earning Dolphins: Submarine Medicine; Wings: Naval Flight Surgeon; Parachute Wings: Basic and Advanced; Diving Insignia: Scuba, Hard Hat, and the Submarine Deterrent Patrol Pin. I also qualified in Closed Circuit Systems and as a Chamber Operator. I served as the Medical Officer in USS Tecumseh SSBN 628; Senior Medical Officer in USS Ranger CVA 61; Commanding Officer of the Naval Submarine Medical Research Laboratory Groton; Executive Officer, Naval Hospital Beaufort and Commanding Officer Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune; and with USN Seal Team 2; and USA 20th Special Forces. I retired in 1989 as Captain (MC) USN.

Civilian:
I received my BA from Rutgers U in 1965; MD from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1969; and MPH from Johns Hopkins U School of Hygiene and Public Health in 1978. I am Board Certified in Emergency medicine, Aerospace medicine, and Forensic Examination and Medicine.

Past academic appointments have included Preventive Medicine at Yale and the U of South Carolina at Columbia; Preventive Medicine and Chairman Operational and Emergency Medicine at the Uniformed Services Univ, and Emergency Medicine at Michigan State U and U of Connecticut.

I came to WA in November, 1994 as Chairman of the Dept of Emergency Medicine at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland WA. I resigned from administrative duties in 2001, and now practice full time Clinical Emergency Medicine at Kadlec Medical Center in Richland, and part time at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco WA.

My other areas of service are as Medical Director and Board member for Camp Patriot; Chairman of Tri-cities Chapter Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; WA State certified Hunter Education Instructor; Founding Board Member and Vice President of The Hunter Educators Resource Organization (501c3); Advisor on Disaster preparedness and management for WA State Hospital Association; Medical Coordinator on Bioterrorism and Disaster Medicine for Kadlec Medical Center; past President and current Religion Chairman of Congregation Beth Sholom; and President and CEO International Emergency Consultants, Inc.

Sara and I are "newlyweds" having been married in 2007. Sara has 3 children and 2 grandchildren. I have 2 surviving children - twin girls 34 years old, and 2 grandchildren.
